Welcome Letter

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6 our aim is to ensure that the children are well prepared and ready to transition in to Secondary School. The Year 6 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Key Stage 2. Please look at class pages for more information to support your child and for photos and information about your child’s learning in school.

Here are a few things you might like to know about our year group.

What will the children need in school?

Everyday each child should bring to school a small bag containing their reading diary and reading book. Reading diaries will be checked and signed every day and books changed once they have been completed. Please ensure your child reads to an adult every day at home and that the reading diary is signed.

Each child should bring in a water bottle.

Timetable:

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit.

Home Learning:

Home Learning is given out on different days to try to prepare them for Secondary School. All assignments are posted on the Google Classroom.

Daily reading:

We aim to read individually with the children as much as possible and all children read daily in class during class activities.

Maths tasks:

Daily ten is a useful website we use in class that help children with their mental maths and practising the four operations

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10

Children also have their own passwords for Doddle Maths which is website tailored to their current level in maths. We encourage the children to access this at home as well as in school as often as possible.
