Computing and Digital Literacy

Computing

We believe that in our technology rich lives, it is crucial that our children are curious and confident when using ICT.  We believe ICT should be woven throughout the curriculum to enrich and deepen children’s experiences in school. In our school, your child will be using ICT to enrichen their experience across the curriculum; for example, they may research in science, they might use computational thinking in a DT project or even collecting, handling and presenting data in maths and science.

We use a range of different apps within our subjects to try and ensure that cross curricular opportunities aren’t missed.   For example, Doodle Maths, Monster phonics and Google Earth are some of the most visited apps we use in our setting.

For more suggestions, please see ‘links to resources’ (awaiting content).

We follow https://teachcomputing.org/   scheme of work, which both follows the national curriculum and is also grounded in the latest research.  The units in KS1 and KS2 are based on a ‘spiral curriculum’ meaning they are revisited frequently to consolidate and build on prior learning within that theme.

These topics are: i) computer systems and networks, ii) creating media, iii) handling data and iv) programming.

These four themes are threaded in each year group, ensuring each topic is built upon prior knowledge from the year/term before to progress skills and concepts from one year group to the next.

To gain insight into what skills your child will be learning at St Bernadette, please see ‘ Computing Skills.’ (awaiting content)
